Emma Baker
I’m Emma Baker, Paralegal within the Collections Team at JB Leitch Solicitors, I have been in my current role for 4 months. In my role, I am responsible for liaising with both leaseholders and freeholders regarding the Service Charge and Ground Rent associated with their properties.
I ensure clear and timely communication to address any queries or concerns related to these charges. Additionally, I manage incoming payments to our firm, accurately processing and allocating funds in line with each account. I also work closely with our Collections Administration team to communicate with our clients to work in their best interest.
Working in this field as a woman has shown me both the challenges and the opportunities that come with being part of a historically male-dominated industry. I’m proud to contribute to a profession that is evolving, and I believe that diverse voices—especially those of women—are essential to driving meaningful change and shaping a more inclusive and balanced legal landscape.
Women’s Equality Day is a powerful reminder of the progress that has been made—and the work that still lies ahead—in the fight for gender equality. To me, it’s a day to reflect on the strength and resilience of the women who came before us, who fought for the rights and opportunities we often take for granted today. It’s also a time to acknowledge the challenges that still exist, especially in professional environments where women continue to push against systemic barriers. Marking this occasion is important not only to honour that legacy, but to inspire continued advocacy, support, and empowerment for all women—across every background and industry.
