I’m Victoria Bottomley, an Associate Solicitor at JB Leitch. I have been with the firm coming up to 11 years and started my journey as an office assistant. Having studied a masters in criminal justice I was looking to gain some experience in the legal arena and since my initial role in the facilities department I have worked my way up to an associate solicitor in the Technical and Complex department. As part of my current role, I have a caseload of complex cases consisting of tribunal cases, technical advices and claims in the county court (as claimant and defendant) on the small, fast, intermediate and multi tracks and manage a small team of paralegals. I am also the head of our defended small claims and non-monetary breach of lease teams which sees me overseeing a team of solicitors and paralegals with their own caseloads. My role also includes allocating all new cases into the Technical and Complex team alongside our Associate Director of Legal. I am also fortunate to be a part of the team that delivers training both internally and for our clients.

JB Leitch is not just a law firm it’s a family and I am very grateful for all of the opportunities I have been given since joining, especially all of the support I received when I was studying alongside working and the flexibility to be able to work mostly remotely since returning from maternity leave has made my career and aspirations achievable. Being given the opportunity to work alongside a number of inspiring powerful woman at all levels of the business is motivational and a testament to the firm’s policies and dedication to developing all employees.

Women’s Equality Day brings the importance of giving people the tools and ability to make their own choices to the forefront of the conversation. Significant progress has been made and is prevalent across the board however, there is still room for advancements across the industry and other industries alike. A day of celebration not only keeps the topic on the agenda but recognises where growth is still needed.
